This piano dates to pre 1858 when Monington and Co. became Monington and Weston with the joining of James Weston
The serial number of 511 indicates at least 6 or 8 years earlier. Indications from previous owners date it at 1849.
All keys work and all bridle straps have been repaired. On a humid day the hammer return can be slightly slower than a warm dry day. It is still easily playable though. Legend has it that Monington perform better in a warmer environment. (a warm front room is fine)
Action has been extensively cleaned and repaired but remains original in its entirety. Hammers, whippens, checks and check rails and jack springs are operational. Key E (plus 2 octaves of middle C) is a bit stiff but works fine.
pedals work fine.
This iron frame piano is overdamped and straight strung and has a wonderfully deep sounding tone. Tuning will be needed after moving however it is in reasonable tune at the moment.
The casing has been re polished to repair the original finish. As can be seen in the pictures it has a great shine which brings to life the highly sought after Burr Wallnut case.
The original candel sticks are not available however the mounts are present and have been polished to compliment the hand carved and inlaid front panel.
Genuinely a collectors piece considering the oldest museum piece is 1786.
In very good condition
