This piano was acquired about thirty years ago to be a family piano and to play as part of a group specialising in ancient instruments. When first obtained it was already stripped down without varnish externally. The inside was as original finishes. To put into current state the wood externally was treated for worm as a precaution and it was repolished in the 1980’s. There are two panels still needing to be repaired each side of the music holder, some damage to and bits of feature mouldings missing, and a blister in the veneer on the side of the case but they do not detract from the general appearance of a good antique piece of furniture. All the piano players have now left home so it has become only a piece of furniture. It is thought that all parts work correctly and that it could be improved and used by someone with an interest in pianos of this age. It was last tuned in 2007 after a house move.
Tuner’s comments:
Collard & Collard 6ft 5in boudoir grand, wood frame with iron bracing, straight stringing, bichords throughout. 6 ¼ octave. Serial number appears to be 48107 which if correct piano is c1849. Strings are poor, it has been tuned with itself about one tone down below present day pitch.
